What everyone in the parish should know about Safeguarding:
The Catholic Church is committed to creating a culture where the safety and wellbeing of all is a priority. It is the responsibility of everyone in the Church to safeguard and promote the wellbeing of those who worship in our Church or who join us for activities facilitated by the Church.
Everyone who has a voluntary role in the church needs to provide information and complete appropriate safeguarding training for the role they are doing.
Those doing general volunteer jobs will need to complete a form with basic contact details.
For other roles there is a formal application process and if working with children or adults in vulnerable situations, this will include a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
Anyone who wishes to take up any role in the parish should contact the Parish Priest or Parish Safeguarding Representative who will ensure that the necessary forms are completed.
The parish safeguarding representative provides the link between the parish and the safeguarding team, promotes safe practice in all activities involving children and adults and advises on safeguarding matters in the parish.
